Week 21 POTW, Greater Boston Hockey Championship Schedule & Playoff notes
February 19, 2011 by adminWeek 21 opened up on Monday night with a nail biter between the Flames and Rangers, the Rangers giving the Flames a good scare but the Flames came away with the 1 goal victory. In Chelmsford Vancouver put up double digits while getting outstanding goaltending from Chris Griffin, handing Detroit just their 3rd loss of the season. In the crossover game this week St Louis ended their winless drought as they outlasted the Penguins in a high scoring contest. The final game of the week had the top seeded Islanders against the Kings on the playoff bubble and the Kings team defense with solid goaltending shut the Islanders offense down coming away with a 5-2 win.
A number of players made a good run at player of the week this week, Jim Keck of Vancouver with a 4 goal, 6 point effort that was matched by Adrien Peacock of St Louis, both propelling their teams to victories. In a league with high scoring games typically across the board we like to mention goalies whenever we can and this week’s runner up, Chris Griffin made 27 saves and allowed just 2 goals backstopping Vancouver’s first win over Detroit was outdone by Bill Notartomaso’s 34 save performance against the Islanders…

Playoff notes:
Please be prompt. Warm-ups will start at the scheduled time and last for 3 minutes. If the previous game completes early, the balance of that time will be used for warm-ups and the actual game will start at the scheduled time.
OT – Playoff games may not end in ties. Time permitting, a five minute sudden-death stop-time overtime will be played immediately after the end of the 3rd period (teams will not switch sides). If there is no winner, a five player shoot-out is used. If there is no winner after the shootout, a five player sudden-death shooting is used, which will repeat until a winner is determined. If there is not time for stop-time OT, the officials and admins may substitute a 5 minute running time OT, or jump directly to a shootout.
Timeouts – Each team is permitted 1 timeout during regulation play. Timeouts may not be used in OT.
Colors – If there is a jersey/color conflict, the team with the better record chooses which team wears the alternate color.
Roster conflicts – Players on teams in both the Chelmsford and Watertown divisions may play on both teams, but must notify their both of their captains and the league admins of which team is their primary team by March 1, 2011. If their primary team plays their secondary team, the player will not be permitted to play for the secondary team in that game.
Addressing the referees – Only players wearing the Captain or Assistant may address a referee.
Game ejections – As always, if a player is asked to leave the ice by an official, he must do so without delay. If he does not do so, the ejected player’s team will forfeit the game. Game ejections by themselves will not cause a player to be suspended.
Suspensions – Any suspensions from the regular season carry into the playoffs. Any suspensions earned in the playoffs will last for the duration of the playoffs, no matter when the offense occurred.
