Week 17 recap, Wednesday weather update

January 24, 2011 by admin

First, why no POTW for week 16? There were some great stats, some ridiculous stats in fact. But the Wednesday weather made it a very odd week for attendance, and we just didn’t have a standout on Monday or Thursday in Watertown, despite two excellent games. So… we punted.

This coming Wednesday, 1/26, looks like it is bringing some more winter weather. Rain / snow amounts are yet to be determined. However, we have been assured by the Bedford and Chelmsford rinks that they will be open. The officials have also said they will be there. So the games will be on. As always, use your best judgement as to whether you can get to and from your game safely. If there are any unexpected cancellations, we will post a message on the website and email the teams

Going into week 18, we have a new first place team in Watertown. The Bruins have a couple games to give over the Islanders and Flames, but officially take over the top spot for the first time this season. The Flames will make up a game this week, playing both the Penguins and the Rangers. By Thursday the long-time standings leader could find themselves back in first, or tucked neatly into third. The Islanders (who haven’t lost since 11/11) are looking to reclaim first, but have to face a tough Kings team. The Kings have won 3 of their last 4 with the only loss being a 1 goal setback vs the Bruins.

Up in Chelmsford, Detroit is just one point away from clinching first, but Nashville looks to keep Detroit from earning that spot when they play on Wednesday. Vancouver and St. Louis play a rematch of their snowstorm game from two week’s ago.
