Week 15 recap and POTW

Excluding empty net goals, four of the five contests last week were one goal victories. The week started strong on Monday when the Rangers(4) took the Flames (T1) to the brink, but finally fell 5-4 despite a slight edges in shots. In the second half of Monday’s double-header the Kings(T5) edged the Penguins(T5) 3-2. Wednesday brought crossover action and Watertown’s Bruins(3) got a taste of the Chelmsford offense in a high scoring game vs St. Louis(4). The Bruins were outscored 3-2 in the 3rd but hung on to win 10-8.
Meanwhile, 10 miles north at the Forum, Vancouver(3) and Detroit(1) played a back and forth affair. Regulation time wasn’t quite enough to determine a victor, but 15 seconds into OT, Joe Meehan scored to keep Detroit’s winning ways alive.
Thursday found the Rangers playing their second first place team of the week in the Islanders (T1). Going into the third the Islanders held a 4-2 edge, but the Islanders – who hadn’t been held to under 8 goals since 11/17 – fired off 24 shots in the 3rd against the tired Rangers to win 8-3.
