Flames advance to championship game with win over Blues, 6-3
April 9, 2010 by NateIn the second playoff game played on Thursday, the Flames eliminated the Blues by a score of 6-3. The Blues opened the scoring at 13:13 of the first when Nate Roy (assists: Joe Perna and Michel Boulerice) was able to pick up a rebound and beat Luis Galvao fivehole. The Flames answered right back 50 seconds later when Alex Garceau (assist: Jim Doyle) fired one top shelf to beat Dan Notartomaso and tie the game at one. Garceau struck again at 4:02 (assist: Sean Locke) to give the Flames the 2-1 lead going into the second.
The Flames continued their scoring ways at 8:39 of the second with a goal from Aaron Johnson with the assist going to Jared Marshall. The Blues cut the lead in half under a minute later when Michel Boulerice scored on a play set up by Nate Roy and Patrick Taylor. The Flames would be able to get that lead back with 1:06 remaining in the period when Ross Bergen tipped a Andrew Fox shot (secondary assist: Aaron Johnson) on the power play, ending the period with a score of 4-2.
The third saw the Flames extend their lead with two early goals, the first from Garceau (assist: Mike Hoye) and the second coming unassisted from Doug Coates. The Blues’s Joe Perna (assists: Michel Boulerice and Nate Roy) would get one back for the Blues with 5:33 remaining, but it wouldn’t be enough and the Flames would hold on for the 6-3 win.
