March 30, 2010 by Nate

In a game which saw plenty of offense coming from 76 combined shots between the two teams, the Blues defeated the Flames 10-4.  The first goal of the game came about 6 minutes in when Joe Perna (unassisted) was able to break away from the Flames’ defense and beat goalie Luis Galvao shorthanded.   The Blues were able to score again about 5 minutes later on another unassisted goal from Patrick Taylor while on the powerplay.  The Blues tallied again at 1:32 of the first period when Zack Torman stole a breakout pass and gave it to Nate Roy who was able to find the back of the net.  Alan Donaruma was able to put the Blues’ lead at 4-0 to end the period when he broke in alone on the shorthand with 9 seconds to play in the first.

The Flames opened the second period on the powerplay and scored a quick one when Jared Marshall took a pass from Alex Garceau and was able to beat Blues’ goalie Dan Notartomaso.  The Blues were able to answer back a few minutes later when Joe Perna finished off a quick passing play from Nate Roy and Michel Boulerice.  However, the Flames countered a few minutes later when Alex Garceau took a pass from Jared Marshall and was able to find the back of the net.  The Blues responded quickly with two goals from Nate Roy (both assisted by Cory Amorante) over the span of 3 minutes.  The Flames capped off the second period when Andrew Fox (assists: Alex Garceau and Jared Marshall) hastily got to a rebound in front of the net and beat a diving Dan Notartomaso with 1:19 to go, putting the score at 7-3.

The Flames sparked comeback hopes by notching a quick one to start the third period, the second in a row from Andrew Fox (assists: Rodney Tortorich and Alex Garceau).  However, that’s where the comeback would end as the Blues scored three more in the third, with the first coming on the shorthand from Alan Donaruma (assists: Greg Hamann), the second from Michel Boulerice (assist: Nate Roy) and the final from Nate Roy (assist: Michel Boulerice), putting the final score at 10-4.
