Penguins Pummel the Blues, 8-3
March 25, 2010 by NateThe Penguins jumped out to a lead that they would never relinquish early in the game when they scored three goals in over the span of four minutes. The first of the three came from Jim Koehler (unassisted) when he was able to put a turn around shot past Blues’ goalie Dan Notartomaso, followed by a goal from Filipe DaSilva set up by Andrew Garnitz and Michael Lerra, capped off by another tally from Koehler (assists: Tim Carter and Colin Haviland). The Blues were able to get one before the period ended when Nate Roy (assist: Anthony Deighton) was able to beat Penguins’ fill-in goaltender Bill Notartomaso on a rebound, putting the score at 3-1 after one period.
The Penguins were able to pad their lead in the second period by scoring two goals. The first of which was scored by Tim Carter on a play set up by Jim Koehler, and the second goal saw Tim Carter return the favor to Jim Koehler by setting him up for his third of the night and giving the Penguins a 5-1 lead.
The Pens were able to add two more insurance markers before the Blues would score again. The first came from Andrew Garnitz (unassisted) and the second from Ian Dargon (assist: Filipe DaSilva). The Blues would attempt a comeback by scoring two quick goals a few minutes later. The first goal came when Joseph Perna took a pass from Nate Roy in the slot and beat Bill Notartomaso high. The second came when Joseph Perna returned the favor to Nate Roy, by making a cross crease pass for him to one time past the Penguins’ netminder. However, the comeback attempt would be shortlived as Tim Carter (unassisted) would get one more goal for the Penguins, putting the final score at 8-3.
