Blues barely beat Bruins, 6-4
March 18, 2010 by NateDuring the Monday game, the Blues were able to squeak past the Bruins by a score of 6-4. The first period was a tight defensive one which only saw one goal. The Blues got that goal at 7:30 of the first on the Power Play when Scott Ninemeier (assists: Ed Kelley and Nate Roy) fired a shot from the point, beating a heavily screened Tim Driscoll.
Under a minute into the second, the Bruins tied the game on goal from Bryan Werner with help from Mark Moroso and Corey Orehek. However, just 8 seconds later, Joseph Perna was able to bank a shot in off the Bruins goaltender to take back the lead. That lead would only last about 2 minutes due to a goal coming from John Yemma on a play set up by Frank Plati and Kyle Smith. The Blues answered right back a few minutes later when Alan Donaruma (assists: Cory Amarante and Dan Notartomaso(G)) took a lead pass in alone and beat Tim Driscoll. Continuing the trend of back and forth goals, the Bruins would tie up the game a few minutes later on an unassisted shorthanded goal from Chris Donovan, ending the period with a score of 3-3.
The third period saw more tight defensive play until late in the period when Nate Roy took a bounce pass from Joseph Perna and was able to slip a shot through the Bruins’ goalie Tim Driscoll. Two minutes later, the Blues would get a much needed insurance goal when Stephen Poogach (assists: Andrew Frisch and Nate Roy) scored on a rebound in the slot. The Bruins started a comeback with 2:12 remaining in the game when John McGuire was able to finish a play started by Chris Donovan and Dan Agnew. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the Blues’ Francis Dargon was able to score with the net empty with 47 seconds remaining to ice the win, 6-4.
