Penguins paste Blues 6-1

March 5, 2010 by Nate

In what started as a close game, the Penguins were able to capitalize on their scoring chances and beat the Blues 6-1.  The Blues got the lone goal in the first when a centering pass from Nate Roy (assists: Anthony Deighton and Zack Torman) redirected off a Penguins defender and past goaltender Glenn McCaffrey.  It would prove to be the Blues’ last goal, as McCaffrey would be a brick wall for the remainder of the game.

The Penguins scored three in the second to take a lead that they would not relinquish.  The first goal came on the power play when Dave Ford scored on a play set up by Michael Condo and Ian Dargon at 11:08.  The second goal, which proved to be the game winner, was scored at 5:53 of the second when Colin Haviland (assist: Jim Koehler) was able to beat the Blues’ fill-in goaltender Bill Notartomaso.  The final goal of the period came from Tim Carter (assists: Colin Haviland and Jim Koehler) to put the score at 3-1.

The Penguins quelled any chances of a Blues comeback in the third by scoring 3 more goals.  The first was an unassisted goal from Jim Koehler, the second was Koehler again (assists: Dave Ford and Michael Condo), and the third was scored by Colin Haviland (assist: Jim Koehler) with the Blues’ net empty.
