Penguins torch Wild 11-4, Bruins put out Flames 4-3 in OT…
February 16, 2010 by KenIn the first game of Monday’s double header, the Penguins dominated the Wild with an 11-4 victory. For the Penguins Jim Koehler had 4 goals and 4 assists for an 8 point game. Colin Haviland had 2 goals and assist while Tim Carter added 2 goals and 2 assists for a 4 point game. Goaltender Glenn McCaffrey turned aside 32 shots from the Wild for his second win of the season. The Penguins outshot the Wild 58-36 on the night, goaltender Bill Notartomaso made 47 saves for the struggling Wild as they fall to 0-5 on the season. The lone bright spot for the Wild having scored 4 goals getting contributions from 4 different scorers, Luke Harris, Jim Keck, Chris Seman and Mark Ringuette scoring for the Wild. Greg Leblanc and KC Reardon each had a pair of assists.
The second game of the night was a much more heated contest as the 1-3 Bruins took on the 3-0 Flames. The Flames got on the board first in this one on an Andrew Fox tally, assists going to Mike Hoye and Alex Garceau. Five minutes later with the Flames on the man advantage the Bruins answered back, Chris Donovan scoring a short handed goal tying the game at 1-1.
Early in the second period the Flames would regain control of the game scoring a pair of goals about a minute apart. Jared Marshall scored first off a feed from Alex Garceau. Mike Hoye extended the lead to 3-1 with his goal, also assisted by Alex Garceau who had 3 assists on the night. The second period ended with the Flames up 3-1.
The third period however belonged to the Bruins as they rallied back with 5 minutes left to play Frank Plati cut the lead to 1 as he finished a nice feed from Dan O’Connor. Less then a minute later Chris Donovan scored his second shorthanded goal of the game, unassisted. As the teams traded chances in the final 3 minutes the deadlock remained and we headed to OT. The OT period was brief though as Frank Plati would take a feed from Kyle Smith and bury his second goal of the game for the game winner. Bruins knocking off the previously unbeaten Flames in OT 4-3.
