Flames burn Blues in a wild one 11-8

In the first game of Thursday night’s triple header, the Flames and Blues determined the theme for the subsequent contests to follow: Offense, and lots of it.  It started early when Alex Garceau scored his first of the game from Aaron Johnson at 13:48.  The Blues answered back 4 minutes later when Nate Roy scored his first of the night from Scott Ninemeier.  Not to be outdone, Alex Garceau potted his second of the night from Sean Locke a minute and a half later.  The Blues would tie it up when Nate Roy put one past Luis Galvao at 4:08, giving him 2 on the night.  The Blues took a short lived lead at 3:11 when Michel Boulerice scored in a scramble in front of the net with help from teammates Joseph Perna and Patrick Taylor.  That lead evaporated when Alex Garceau completed the hat trick by beating Dan Notartomaso on a great individual effort followed by a Doug Coates goal from Dave Santiano to close out the first period with the Flames up 4-3.

The second period saw the same kind of open offensive action as the first period displayed which, again, started early when the Blues tied the game up with a unassisted goal from Patrick Taylor.  However, just a few minutes later, the Flames took a lead which they would never relinquish when Dave Santiano scored with help from Aaron Johnson.  The scoring continued with an unassisted goal from the Flames’ Stewart Solomon followed by the Blues’ Michel Boulerice scoring with help from Scott Ninemeier.  The scoring in the second period was not done there, though, as the Flames scored two quick goals, the first of which came from Andrew Fox from Jared Marshall and Sean Locke and the second coming from Jim Doyle with the lone assist going to Mike Hoye, to close out the period with the Flames up 8-5.

The third period saw another combined 6 goals, the first coming from Flames’ player Aaron Johnson (assist: Rodney Tortorich).  Of the ensuing faceoff, the Blues were able to get one back as Nate Roy sent  Alan Donaruma in alone where he made a nice move to beat Luis Galvao.  The Blues looked like they were going to come back after Patrick Taylor scored with help from Greg Hamann and Cory Amarante.  However, the Flames were able to match that goal with a Power Play marker at 5:40 of the third, scored by Rodney Tortorich(assist: Mike Hoye).  The Blues made one last effort at the comeback when Nate Roy scored to complete the hat trick(assist: Joseph Perna) at 2:05 of the third, to bring the Blues to within 2 goals.  However, the Flames’ Alex Garceau was able to find Jim Doyle in front of the Blues’ empty net to ice the victory 11-8.
