Bruins second period comeback hands Wild 6-5 Loss
February 12, 2010 by KenIn the second game of Thursday nights triple header the Bruins and Wild played to see who could snap the winless streak, both teams entering the game 0-3 on the season.
The Wild came out firing, scoring 3 goals before the Bruins could get on the board. Opening the scoring for the Wild was Adam Thibault, stuffing a shot home beside the goal, assists going to Jim Keck and KC Reardon. Chris Seman scored the second goal for the Wild on a great pass from KC Reardon. KC Reardon would then add a goal himself, his third point of the night, putting the Wild up 3-0. The Bruins finally had an answer as they got a power-play opportunity and scored just :08 seconds in to the man advantage, an unassisted goal by Bryan Werner. Jim Keck would add another goal for the Wild in the closing seconds of the first giving them their biggest lead of the season 4-1 after one period.
In the second period the tide shifted. The Bruins out-shot the Wild 19-4 and outscored the Wild 3 goals to 0 in the period. Another pp goal started the scoring for the Bruins, John Yemma from Chris Donovan. Dan O’Conner notched an unassisted goal and Frank Plati capped off the comeback when he blasted a slap shot over the shoulder of the Wild goaltender with just :08 left in the period.
Tied at 4 goals apiece as the third period got underway the teams traded scoring chances and the Wild closed the gap on the shots on goal. The Wild out-shot the Bruins in the third period 14-12 but in the end they would come up short. The Bruins scored first in the period taking a 5-4 on Chris Donovan’s short handed slapshot that easily found the back of the net. Frank Plati put the Bruins up 6-4 with what would be the eventual game winner assisted by Dan Agnew and Ryan Daley. For the Wild, Chris Seman would net his second goal of the game with 10 minutes left to play pulling them back within one but that’s all they could muster. The Bruins held on for the 6-5 victory.
