January 5, 2010 by admin

The 2009 Fall Draft League Championship was decided last night at Ryan Arena in Watertown. The inaugural championship for the first year league saw unbeaten first place Royal taking on 3rd place Green who battled their way into the playoffs and the final game with an impressive win in their previous game. Up for grabs the newly coined Boston Ice Chalice…

The last time Green and Royal met, Royal won in OT setting the table for a great matchup in the Final. On to the opening faceoff we go… trading shots early Royal would strike first as Dan Donaghey buried a rebound just over 2 minutes into the contest. That would be the only goal Royal would get on Bill Notartomaso in the first period as he turned away 15 of the 16 shots fired his way, keeping Green in the game.

In the second period it was Green that would find the back of the net first when Rich Lemerise pounced on a loose puck off a Nate Roy shot to tie the game at 1-1. That goal seemed to light the fire under Royal though and Kyle Smith would grab the lead back just :20 seconds later scoring on a great pass from Jim Koehler. Frank Plati added another goal with just under a minute to play putting Royal up 3-1 at the end of the second period.

The third and final period was all Royal, scoring 4 times to put the game away. Colin Haviland with a Hat Trick in the third period and Jim Koehler adding a goal to go along with his 4 assists on the night. Royal outshot Green 37-26 on route to the victory as they finished off the season 13-0 securing the Boston Ice Chalice as their own. Final Score Royal 7, Green 1.
