Green fends of White, moves into third place…
December 11, 2009 by adminHeaded into last nights contest Green and White were separated by only one point for the third and final playoff spot. White holding the slim lead in the standings jumped out early, Christian Grunnah scoring just :11 seconds into the game. Green responded 2 minutes later when Alex Garceau scored his first of the night, tying the game at 1-1. Green appeared to have taken the lead with just under 7:00 minutes remaining in the first period when the ref signaled no goal after a great passing play between Garceau and Tony Salamone, the puck appeared to have crossed the line but traffic shielding the ref’s sight line caused the no goal signal as he never saw it in the net. The Green team was up in arms for sure and as bounces go you could expect the next goal would be scored by White and it was just a minute later, Christian Grunnah banging home his second of the game to give White a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period. Fortunately for Green, goaltender Bill Notartamaso was on his game tonight as the 2 first period goals scored by White were the only ones he’d allow stopping 36 of the 38 shots White fired his way. Green scored the only goals of the second period, Alex Garceau tied the game at 2-2 and Nate Roy scored the eventual game winner putting Green up 3-2. Both goalies played outstanding in the third period, Tim Driscoll filling in goal for White made 32 saves on the night, 17 in the third period. Green only managed to get one shot past Driscoll in the third, Alex Garceau’s third of the game with just under 2 minutes to play sealed the deal for Green. The win for Green pushes them past White by just one point for third place. Each team has one game remaining before the playoffs.
