Royal downs Maroon 9-3 extending unbeaten streak to 10 games…
December 8, 2009 by admin1st place Royal came out firing on all cylinders as they took on 2nd place Maroon, scoring 3 first period goals and shutting out Maroon in the opening frame. Colin Haviland opened the scoring for Royal on a great pass from Jim Koehler. Dan Agnew and Aaron Johnson each tallied goals in the first period. Scoring first in the 2nd period Royal went up 4-0 before Kyle Stevenson got Maroon on the scoreboard and closing the gap to 3 goals. Royal went back up by three when Sam Toso buried a pass from Jim Koehler but Kyle Stevenson would strike again for Maroon, this time scoring shorthanded and once again cutting the lead back down to 3 goals. Royal did not let up though, Kyle Smith scored followed by a Jim Koehler goal and then another by Colin Haviland. Closing the 2nd period with Royal up 8-2. The teams traded goals in the 3rd period, Aaron Johnson netting his second of the game for Royal and Michel Boulerice scoring for Maroon. The ultimate highlight came on a faceoff when Frank Plati asked Kyle Stevenson which way he planned on winning the draw this time, assuming the same direction he had a handfull of times already, both teams laughed when Stevenson won the draw and took the puck past Plati and walked in for a shot on goal. Glenn McCaffrey made the save and Frank Plati realized, yeah, I kinda asked for that!
