Orehek’s powerplay goal lifts Maroon over White, 4-3…

Special teams was the name of the game for Maroon as they overcome an early 2-0 deficit with a come from behind 4-3 victory. White jumped out early, Jim Keck scoring a pair of goals in the first period, 1:05 apart, giving White a 2-0 lead after 1 period. But the PK would be the downfall of White as they surrendered 3 PP goals to Maroon on the night, the first coming just 2 minutes into the 2nd period. Cory Orehek found the back of the net, assisted by Steven Traynor and Michel Boulerice. 30 seconds later Rodney Tortorich tied the game at 2-2, scoring Maroon’s only even strength goal of the game. The teams traded chances and finished the 2nd period still tied at 2 goals apiece. Midway through the 3rd period White would break the stalemate, Jim Keck netting his 3rd goal of the game, unassisted for the hat trick. However,the lead was short lived as another penalty to White lead to another Maroon PP goal, this time Kyle Stevenson bury’s his scoring chance with assists going to Matt Casserly and Luis Galvao. With overtime looming in the closing minutes the penalty bug struck again and White found themselves down a man once more. Maroon capitalized. Corey Orehek banged home the game winner for his second goal of the game with 1:01 left to play. White pulled their goalie and get a few scoring chances in the closing seconds, but Maroon held on for the win. Matt Lydon made 35 saves in goal for White but still took the loss.
