The final regular season game between Green and Royal was easily their best of the season. Green having put Royal on the ropes early scoring 4 times in the first period. Alex Garceau opened the game with a natural hat trick scoring from impossible angles, he also added an assist on a Nate Roy goal with under 2 minutes left. Putting Royal in an unfamiliar postion, trailing 4-0 after the first period the Green team looked to be cruising. But, Sam Toso would get Royal on the board early in the 2nd, a PP goal at 12:01 of the period cut the lead to 3. Jim Koehler would then put up a natural hat trick of his own, scoring 2 to close out the 2nd and netting the first goal of the 3rd period tying the game at 4-4. The Green team had an answer, Nate Roy puts away his second goal of the game off a great pass from Rich Lemerise, giving Green the lead again at 5-4. Green’s second penalty of the game puts Royal back on the PP and Kyle Smith fires a shot wide of the net, the rebound off the back boards was gift wrapped for Ken Holbrook as he banged it home tying the game at 5-5. The two teams traded scoring chances in the final minutes but remained tied forcing the OT. Jim Koehler would score his fourth of the game and game winner in OT as his wrist shot deflected off a defenseman’s leg and past goaltender Bill Notartamaso. Royal remains unbeaten at 8-0 on the season. Bill Notartamaso made 40 saves on the night in goal for Green.
