Maroon ties game with 0:01 left, but Royal wins in OT

September 29, 2009 by admin

The first game of the season was an exciting back and forth contest with Royal winning 6-5 in OT. Maroon came from behind three times, including a game tying goal from Kyle Stevenson with less than one second left in regulation. Royal, lead by a 5 point night from James Koehler (3-2-5), pushed the game winner in after 3:37 of OT. The final tally was scored by Frank Plati.

Matt Casserly’s Maroon team kept up the pressure all game, and poured 46 shots on goalie Glenn McCaffrey. They had four power play opportunities, including a brief five on three, but McCaffrey made the stops and Royal’s defense cleared the rebounds to maintain their one score edge.

Congrats to Royal for the first victory of the season. Maroon also earns a point for the OT appearance.
